Frequently asked questions
- Is it ok if I have a machine with 1/2 GB of RAM?
- If your machine us underperforming in class, it will have a likely negative impact on your experience. We try our best not to “leave anyone behind”, but most of our modules build upon the one prior. It would be difficult to skip from one module to a later module in order to catch up. Please heed our recommendations and ensure that your hardware meet the specs.
- I need an administrator to build my VPC environment
- That is fine! Getting a helping hand is very important. You don’t need to know much about building a Windows Server, but you do need to have one installed. Here is a great piece of advice. If you do have to ask someone else to build you an environment, make sure you ask them to change the name of the server to something manageable. “SE0184-24YUKOUOUAESE123” is not a nice server name, and is often what you will get out of the box. Try something like “MOSS2007” or “BOOTCAMP”. You’ll be typing that a lot!
- Do I need to run Virtual PC? I have another Virtual Environment.
- You are free to run your environment in any virtual client you choose. All that we ask is that you know how to install, configure, and administer it yourself. If we all run the same environment, we all have a better chance of supporting our classmates in the event of an issue. Your instructor will do his best to support you and troubleshoot any issues that arise, but this class will be run using Virtual PC.
- The class is called “Administration and Planning”. How much “planning“ do we actually do?
- In the class, you will spend anywhere from 30% to 40% of your time working on planning, architecture, governance or adoption-related tasks. If you think that is a lot, remember that most of the Administrative tasks you perform in your own environment entail more than just some technical aspect. The planning portion of the class will be the most beneficial lessons you will learn.
- Where can I get more information?
- Contact us using the “Contact Us” link at the top of the page.
- My question isn’t here.
- Well, that’s not really a question. Just kidding! Contact us with your question using the “Contact Us” link above. If your question seems common enough, we’ll add it to this page!
